What is the difference between Type 1 and Type 2 EV charger?

The two most popular types of electric vehicle (EV) charging connectors are Type 1 and Type 2. Whereas Type 2 connectors are more frequently seen in Europe, Type 1 connectors are more frequently found in North America and Japan. The two are mostly different in how much power they can deliver and how quickly they charge.

At 120 volts, Type 1 connectors can normally give 16 amps of electricity, or 1.9 kW of charging power at its maximum. On the other hand, Type 2 connectors have a maximum charging rate of 43 kW and can deliver up to 63 amps of electricity at 240 volts. As a result, charging an electric car uses Type 2 connectors considerably more quickly.
